The last few times I’ve been to Fulford chippie I’ve been struck by how terrible the fish is they serve. They are thin, weedy things covered in flaky batter – dry and not at all succulent.

I don’t know what is going on with them, they used to be amongst the best fish and chips in York up until fairly recently – I used to travel out of my way to get to Fulford chippie, but now I shall be doing the exact opposite. In my opinion it’s worth the drive to Bishopthorpe Road chippie, or even the Chip Inn at Bishopthorpe itself if you happen to be in the area, rather than have to suffer the travesties of Fulford fish and chip shop.
